Lawyers Weekly recently published this article about the launch of L&H Injury Lawyers.

Sunshine Coast pair launch injury law firm

Two seasoned injury lawyers have established their own law firm, L&H Injury Lawyers, to “bring a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience” to this space.

Mala Heffernan and Fiona Leddy (pictured) have teamed up to establish their own boutique firm, L&H Injury Lawyers, based on the Sunshine Coast.

With a combined experience of over 30 years and a dedicated focus on personal injury law throughout their entire legal careers, they believe they can “bring a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience to their clients”.

L&H Injury Lawyers will offer services in cases involving work accident injuries, road accident injuries, public place and private property injuries and total and permanent disability superannuation claims.

The two principal lawyers have emphasised their dedication to personal injury law, citing their “desire to help people and make a real difference in their lives”.

Leddy has over 15 years of experience as an injury lawyer. She started her career as a solicitor at BigLaw plaintiff firm Shine Lawyers, then worked her way up to special counsel. Leddy was also a senior associate at the national plaintiff firm Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.

Heffernan has been an injury lawyer for over 14 years, starting as a lawyer at Sunshine Coast law firm Butler McDermott Lawyers. She also gained employment at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, where she held several management roles, including senior associate, regional officer leader, and principal lawyer.

Both were driven to establish their own law firm as they were passionate about being able to “service clients the way they felt they deserved whilst operating under a fairer and more transparent fee structure”.

They emphasised how establishing your own law firm is a big leap and poses some challenges. However, they expressed: “With the changing landscape of the legal industry, remote working and technological advancements, comes the opportunity for micro firms to open and seriously compete with the longstanding firms in their area of practice.”

Leddy expressed her immense passion towards injury law, commenting: “Supporting our clients when they are often facing one of the most difficult challenges in their life is the reason why I love this job so much. Mala and I feel that we can truly achieve this at L&H Injury Lawyers.”

Heffernan acknowledged how her experience in her senior position has provided her with the needed knowledge and confidence to start L&H Injury Lawyers.

“I am very grateful for the opportunities afforded to me in my previous roles. I have been given the chance to develop my skills not just as a lawyer, but in key areas of leadership, business development and financial management, and this has really given me a leg up when starting our own firm,” Heffernan stated.
